A few words

As far as our little tough guy goes, today was a great day!   He was smiley, laughing, very playful and a little mischievous.  I had the door just pushed closed as I was working from home and needed to take a couple of calls.  So here he comes down the hall, he pushes open the door to the office, wiggles his way in through the now open door and then proceeds to shut the door behind him.  I think he was hiding from his mom and thought a visit to the office would be a nice escape.   There’s also a lot of very interesting stuff on the Poppy’s desk.  The keyboard, mouse, pens, chapstick, hats, golf tee game, etc etc.  You know lot’s of stuff that he can toss on the floor for me.   And when he does this he looks at me and smiles and gives himself a little round of applause.

I mentioned before that Colt’s hands were healed up nicely now.  The bandaid is off his left middle finger now and I think he really likes what he sees.   I caught little glimpses of him looking at his new fingers while we were playing a little game of peek a boo.  You could see a little hint of pride on his face as he looked them over.   I don’t know if he’s that self aware but sometimes,  I think he knows more than we know he knows.  Follow me?

In fact, Pam and I were watching the little guy the other night and it was time for his evening groceries. Pam had the pump all setup and it was time for bed.  After a few minutes it sounds like he’s not ready for bed.   We listened to him fussing about in the bedroom and finally it was clear we need to check on the situation.   Pam goes in, all looks well, his feeding tube is still in, he has his blanket, and all looks well. She reassures him and tells hims goodnight again.  It’s quiet for awhile but soon we can hear him again.  She goes in and there’s a “Feed Error” on the pump.  Hmm.  A little investigation reveals that the tube is clogged, so she gets him up, passes him to me and she starts to work on the clog.  She comes back, Colt is plugged in and we sit there on the couch for a few minutes.  Colt starts pointing at the pump.  Huh, the yellow light is on. “Feed Error”.  Pam tinkers around with the hose, the connections, the pump and hits restart.  He starts pointing at the pump again. Yep, “Feed Error”.   Now at this point were starting to wonder if he can feel that the groceries aren’t coming and that earlier, in the bedroom, he was telling us “Hey, that thing that’s connected to me isn’t working”.   We finally got the tube flowing and put Colt to bed and we never hear another peep.

So.  Self aware or not, he’s pretty sharp when it comes all this business.

Yep, today was great day!  We’re lucky that we have a lot of these.
